ABOUT ME

Hello! Steve Darrington here. I came to Swanage in 2000 following 35 years as a touring musician as well as working in Broadcasting, Publishing, Advertising, Law, Marketing and Engineering at Director level.

Nowadays I am an Entertainment Consultant, the sole organiser of Swanage Blues Festivals, produce the monthly guide to live music in Swanage, and play music on special occasions too.

If you want to know more about me, see www.stevedarrington.com

SWANAGE BLUES

Swanage Blues Festivals take place twice a year in March and October, attracting much-needed business to the town when trade would otherwise be very quiet. Over 1,000 people attend each festival. Some accommodation providers report that their rooms are booked three years in advance.

The first Swanage Blues Festival in March 2001 started off as a birthday party and escalated rapidly when pubs asked to join in. I added the October festival in 2007, and now most bars, clubs and restaurants take part.

The events are internationally famous, attracting visitors from abroad who plan their UK holidays to incorporate a Swanage Blues Festival. We have received huge publicity including several live BBC TV broadcasts from the festival and articles in top people’s magazines, as well as the usual music and entertainment media.

Rather than taking place in a confined area like most music events, Swanage Blues Festivals are big town parties and people are encouraged to roam. The format is multi-venue, overlapping playing times, different types of Artists in each Venue, with many of the Venues within a few seconds walk of each other.

The festivals have been called “The Best Blues Parties on the South Coast”, and there certainly is a Big Town Party feel to it all. Many people say it is the friendliest festival they know, with bags of atmosphere, camaraderie, a wide selection of great music and lots of fun.

BOOKING ACTS

It's All About The Show!

I programme the festivals taking into account the wishes and the compatibility of Artists and Venues, matching them together for a full and varied programme. The quality of Artists is high due partly to my long association with people in the entertainment business. It really is All About The Show!

FINANCES

Admission is free but everybody who attends is encouraged to make a contribution by purchasing a Wristband (currently only £10) to show their appreciation and help ensure the future of Swanage Blues Festivals. Wristbands are available in advance online and at the tourist information centre, retail outlets and some Venues over the festival weekends.

I programme all the events, arrange Artists’ fees with the Venues, the Venues pay the Artists direct, and no fee is payable to me by either Artists or Venues.

There are opportunities for advertising on the website, in the festival programme and on the monthly ‘Live Music and more…’ guide for Swanage & Purbeck at http://www.swanage-blues.org/default.aspx?p=advert

DEADLINE

Deadline for agreement on acts and advertisements in the Festival Programme is three months prior to the festival, although earlier booking is advisable to avoid disappointment. Deadline is therefore 1 December for the following March festival, and 1 July for the October festival
